We hope everyone had a good couple months of Winter fun and Thanks for making our first Winter party a huge success. It was great to see 70 of the most dedicated and passionate mtb’ers come together in the same place at the same time to celebrate our successes and failures and discuss opportunities for the future. The free beer flowed and so did many special conversations. Thanks to everyone for their honest feedback and new perspectives. Please contact us to follow up on discussions or ideas that hatched on that special night. We hope to involve many of you this year with SAMBA initiatives.
Currently we estimate that nearly 35-40% of the planned trail work in Harrisburg has been completed with a stretch goal of completion by July 1. We still have a lot of work to do including some of the most difficult trail building challenges including: 700 ft. raised trail tread, retaining walls, bridges, unsloped turns (berms), rock armoring, sustainable re-routes, bench cutting, trail head relocation, drainage mitigation and brand new trail additions.
Anyway, Spring has definitely sprung and we are firing up the Parkway work crew juggernaut this Saturday March 12. We will be back on our usual schedule for work days which is every Saturday from 9-1 excluding March 19 when we will attend the BSCPA Regional Bike Advocacy Summit in Lancaster. We encourage you to join us if you have an interest in Bicycle advocacy efforts in Central Pa. both recreational and transportation based. The speakers are top-notch and include Anthony Duncan from IMBA, Alex Doty Executive Director League of American Bicyclists and Penndot Bike/Ped Coordinator Roy Gothie among others. Check back weekly for updates and meeting locations for work days. We hope to do some post work rides to “test ride” new trail work for feel and flow. We will also try to be available to work on Sundays or weekday mornings based on interest and availability. See you out there!
