Hello SAMBA!

I just wanted to pass on a quick SAMBA News update.

SWATARA STATE PARK

·         The Tuesday night rides are still leaving at 6pm from the trailhead at the end of State Park Lane. All riders are welcome!

·         Come Tame The Jungle! Trimming Thursdays continue this Thursday, 6-24 & 7-1, from 6pm till 8. The idea is to keep the singletrack flowing and still be able to see other users ahead of you. I will be bringing tools, but if you want to bring a trimmer it's ok. There is poison out there, so long pants are recommended. If you can make it please let me know (click here to send a message). Thanks to Nick & Terry Resanovich, Mike Carter, Mark Light, and Andrea Strubhar for helping out so far.

·         Name That Trail. DCNR is looking to SAMBA to name the trails we built at Swatara State Park. So send your name suggestions for any or all of the trails to me (click here to send a message). You have till the first week in July and then I will put a poll up for each trail for all to vote on. I’ll send out an email when the polls are up. If you need a map, click here.

Look out for the Get Your Ride On messages for random rides also.

See you out on the trail!

            SWATARA PARK NEW TRAIL UPDATE

We are getting very close to finishing the new trail. We will be out building Thursday, October 1, from 6 pm till the light gives out. We will be moving our weekend workdays to Sundays since deer hunting (archery) begins again. So on Sunday October 4 we will be out there from 9am till noon. The meeting place is at the main (only) trailhead at the end of State Park Lane.  I will bring the tools; just let me know if you are coming. (click here to send a message)

I would like to thank last Thursday and Saturday’s crews for helping get this trail closer to the finish line: Terry Resanovich, Nick Resanovich, Chris Shelly, Jeff Strubhar, Brian Despot, Matt McElheny, Desiree McElheny, and Andrea Strubhar.

HUNTING SEASON

Hunting (archery) starts on October 3 and lasts until November 14.  Please limit your riding to Sundays.

Note: Swatara park is popular for hunting.

SWATARA PARK TRAIL KIOSK

The Kioskthat is to be installed at the trailhead has finally been delivered to the park. The problem now is that the park staff lacks time to assemble and install it. This sign will have two bulletin boards that are behind glass that will allow us to post club info. So I am looking for volunteers to first stain the individual pieces and then assemble it (this can be done inside a building at Memorial Lake or Swatara Park). Please let me know if you are interested in helping and we can work out details from there. (click here to send a message)

SWATARA PARK

The new trail at Swatara Park is progressing quickly. Thursday we had 11 and on Saturday we had 6 people blazing in the new trail’s path through the woods.   At this point I think that we are at the half way point (not bad for 4 weekday evenings and 4 Saturday morning’s worth of work!).

I would like to thank this week’s crew:

Ø  Thursday’s Crew (9-3-09): Mike Carnegie, Terry Resanovich, Nick Resanovich, Mike Althouse, Faith Mumma, Brad Ditzler, Ben Kreider, Darryl Bush, Joe Daversa, and Andrea Strubhar

Ø  Saturday’s Crew (9-5-09):  Chris Shelly, Kory Jones, Darryl Bush, Jeff Strubhar,  and Andrea Strubhar

I think we can be very close to finishing the trail by the end of the month (if not done) if we have enough people at the workdays. Hunting season begins in early October and I would like to be done before the season begins. So here are the next workdays:

Ø  Wednesday 9-9-09 be ready start at 6 pm – we work till dusk

Ø  Thursdays  9-17, & 9-24 be ready start at 6 pm – we work till dusk

Ø  Saturdays 9-12, 9-19, & 9-26 be ready start at 9 am – we work till noon

I will bring the tools; just let me know if you are coming (click here to send a message).

See you out on the trails!
