Parkway Trails System Map

Night riding is permitted at the Parkway Trail System.  SAMBA highly recommends never riding at night alone and riders to have two lights; one mounted on the handle bar and one mounted on the helmet.  Due to having to ride city streets to connect the Cameron Parkway to the Paxtang Parkway riders should also have a flashing red light attached to the back of their bike when traveling on city streets after dusk.

PARKWAY TRAIL SYSTEM OPENING DAY OCT 22

PLEASE JOIN US ON OCT 22 FOR OPENING DAY IN HARRISBURG!!! The Susquehanna Area Mountain Bike Association is nearing completion of The Parkway Trail System after more than a year’s work building 10 miles of trails that are sustainable, safe and fun.  We’ve logged almost 1200 hours of volunteer time since Harrisburg City Council passed our resolution in July 2015. SAMBA is a 501c3 non-profit organization and has managed to raise all funds needed to establish the entire trail facility. We see the natural surface trail option as a wonderful enhancement to the Capital Area Greenbelt that provides an escape from the city grind and a connection to nature. We tried to maximize green spaces and create a unique facility that will provide a recreational opportunity where we previously had none. This type of facility will help us retain residents and attract people to the area to visit, ride and contribute to the local economy. We designed the trail system using the Greenbelt as it’s spine. Folks can access the trail network traffic-free from any neighborhood instead of loading up the car and driving 45-60 minutes to reach the closest trails. The trail system will offer a place for beginners to learn, novices to build their skills and experts to have a fun trail experience. The trails will be shared-use (trail runners, hikers, bird watchers etc.), directional and marked for all skill levels. The City of Harrisburg is the primary stakeholder for the facility with the County of Dauphin and LCSWMA also contributing land for trail development. Partners and supporters of this project also include Quality Bicycle...

CAUSEWAY BUILD – PARKWAY TRAILS MAY 12,13, 14

Causeway Build on the Parkway Project May 12,13 and 14 The Parkway-Trails Liaison and SAMBA have scheduled to begin work on a 700 foot long causeway made entirely from crushed stone as part of the Parkway trail project. The stone access trail is needed due to low lying grass near the creek where construction of a sustainable dirt surface trail is not possible. Work will begin May 12 with excavating the tread and May 13 and 14th moving stone and compacting the tread. LCSWMA will deliver stone that was donated by Pennsy Supply on May 12. We are looking for folks to help move stone from staging locations into the trail tread that has been excavated. This will be done with a bobcat, tractor and a lot of wheelbarrows. Please bring wheelbarrow if possible. Thursday we will start at 12 NOON and work till dusk. Both Friday and Saturday we will work from 9 AM until dusk . If you have any availability to help move stone please reply to this email we’re looking for a team that is ready to get this job done! We don’t need you to be there for the full day but all help is appreciated. Meet at Greenbelt parking lot @19th st. If arriving later just head through the gate South about 200 yards to the site. Please respond with any questions to: http://sambabiker.com/samba/parkway-trails/...
